Issa Diop, driver & guide

Petite Côte, Pointe Sarène

My name is Issa Diop and I live in Pointe Sarène, a small quiet village by the sea between Nianing and Joal. I work with the Hotel Riu Baobab in Pointe Sarène and also drive guests from other hotels and organisations along the coast. One car, one person at the wheel: the one in the photo. Before every trip you get the model, number plate and time on WhatsApp.

I lived in Zurich for several years and worked in the kitchen of a well-known restaurant. Being punctual, reliable and friendly became even more important to me there. I have long experience as a driver: before Switzerland I drove for aid organisations and took children to school in the school bus.

For groups of 5 or more I hire a minibus. The hire, about 48,000 FCFA a day, is added to the base price; I tell you the amount before you book.

Questions

What people ask me most

What is there to do from Nianing or Warang?
Half day: Bandia reserve (safari, 45 km), Joal-Fadiouth and its shell island (15 km), the Somone lagoon by pirogue (30 km), Mbour fishing harbour (12 km). Full day: Lac Rose, Dakar and Gorée island, the Saloum delta. Every trip starts at your hotel.
How long is it from AIBD airport to Nianing?
About 55 km, 45 to 60 minutes on the motorway. The private transfer costs 35,000 FCFA (roughly €53), toll included, to Pointe Sarène, Nianing or Warang; 30,000 FCFA (roughly €46) to Saly and Mbour. Send me your flight number: I track the times and wait if your flight is delayed.
Are entrance fees included in the price?
No. The price shown is for the car and driver, half day or full day, for 1 to 4 people. The reserve entrance, the Somone pirogue and the Gorée ferry are paid on the spot. I give you the exact amount by WhatsApp beforehand so you have the right change.
Do you speak German or English?
I speak Wolof, French and a little German. Write to me in your own language anyway: the WhatsApp button prepares your request in French, and I answer by voice message or call you back. Your hotel reception can also book for you — they call me directly. On village visits language is no barrier: the villagers welcome you warmly, and the atmosphere is one of a kind.
Can I book several days in a row?
Yes, and most families do: one trip, then another two days later. Over several days I give an overall price. For a tour with overnight stays — Saint-Louis, Casamance, Sine Saloum — I quote a firm price in advance, my own accommodation included.
How do I book?
WhatsApp is easiest: the date, your hotel and how many people. I confirm the price and the time in writing. No deposit, you pay at the end of the trip. Book the day before if you can, especially in high season. Please note: for 5 or more people I hire a larger vehicle, which is added to the base price.
